St. Xavier’s College Ranchi, also known as SXC Ranchi, is a religious minority educational institution in Ranchi, Jharkhand. The college was established by the Ranchi Jesuit Province of the Society of Jesus on July 3, 1944. It is registered under the local title ‘Xaviers Ranchi’ under the society’s Registration Act XXI of 1860. Moreover, the Ranchi Jesuit Province of the Society of Jesus started the college after identifying the need for a higher education institute in the region.

St. Xavier’s Ranchi was initially affiliated with Patna university, and, from 1950-1960, the college was under Bihar University. However, the college is now affiliated with Ranchi University. St. Xavier’s College is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accredited the college with an ‘A’ grade. The UGC conferred the college with autonomous status in 2005 and granted ‘College with Potential for Excellence’ status in 2006.

St. Xavier’s College Ranchi courses include 30+ courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the fields of arts, science, commerce, business administration, vocational, and education. As a Jesuit higher educational institution, St Xavier's Ranchi is dedicated to the Christian minority and socially and financially marginalised, including SC/ST/OBC. It also offers financial assistance to its students via various scholarship programmes. The St. Xavier’s College Ranchi campus is spread over 29.8 acres and provides campus facilities such as a library, indoor and outdoor sports facilities, hostel accommodation, and laboratories, among others.

The St. Xavier’s College Ranchi campus is spread over 29.8 acres of green landscape in Ranchi, Jharkhand. For all educational activities, the college has four dedicated buildings - Main Building, B.Ed and Humanities Building, Gym and Research Building, and Vocational and Management Building. Moreover, it has 79 classrooms of various sizes on campus. The classrooms are equipped with wifi facilities and projectors for audio-visual classes. Central Research Laboratory (CRL) - St. Xavier’s College Ranchi pays a great deal of attention to providing sophisticated equipment and support facilities to the science faculty to ensure excellence in academics and research. The St Xavier’s College Ranchi campus has instituted a Central Research Laboratory (CRL) in 2010 to enable the faculty and students to achieve excellence in multidisciplinary research with industry relevance.
Library - The St. Xavier’s College Ranchi Central Library is one of the oldest college libraries in Ranchi. Established in 1947, the library has 1,67,000 books and 105 national and international periodicals. At the library, students can also access the online database provided by N-List, and e-journals and e-books of renowned publishers such as SAGE. It is fully automated with the library management software called ‘Alice for Window’ and has an OPAC facility. Apart from the Central Library, the college also has department libraries managed by the respective department and a separate PG library with 5,750 books for postgraduate students.
